"Pieretta's Veil"
The play "Pieretta's Veil" was written in 1901. The place and time of the action: Vienna, the beginning of the 19th century / the play is written in dialogues, but the means of expression are exclusively pantomime/. In 1910 it was staged for the first time on the Russian stage by Vsevolod Meyerhold under the title "The Scarf of Colombina". The performance became an event. This performance staged by Meyerhold opened the way for a series of serious experiments, which transformed the stage art of the 20th century. N. Evreinov, K. Marjanov, V. Solovyov and many others. also shared this pantomime experience with their actors. In 1914 Meyerhold's experience was repeated with new and strong efforts by Alexander Tairov, who opened his Chamber Theater with a pantomime performance based on the same play by Arthur Schnitzler, entitled "Pieretta's Blanket".
