The play "Mercedes" represents 1948 the fate of a whole generation of immigrants, the drama of life in Soviet Armenia. Established in Thessaloniki as a result of the genocide ,the daughter of Armenian immigrants, Miss Zaruhi, coming to Armenia and writing letters all her life keeps in touch with her older sister, Mercedes, who remains in Greece.
Soon for Zaruhi
it becomes clear that the heavenly life described by the agitators in Soviet Armenia
is far from reality: Stalinist repressions, exile, persecution of the "Akhpars",
added to this is the family drama. But Zaruhi, facing the bitter fate
blows, continues to live in the cradle of his grandfathers, maintaining a human high
qualities, patriotism and optimism. It is too expensive to have a homeland
pay the two sisters. The actions end with the yearning for Armenia's independence
with the news.
The play is especially relevant these days, when we are once again faced with immigration and independence problems of preserving the homeland.
